Michael understands the importance of spending time with his three children. A member of the Y for 10 years, he said he’s grown closer with his kids through Y programs, such as youth sports, Y Guides and Y Princesses.
“The programs at the Y give a great structure for you as a family to spend time together. The whole family can go into the Y and do stuff together or apart, but in the same facility,” he said.
In particular, Michael credits the Y Guides and Y Princesses program, which allows fathers and their sons or daughters to participate in fun, educational activities that help them grow closer together.
“Everyone says they wish they had spent more time with their kids when they get older. It’s been important to me because I can look back and feel really good about carving time out with the kids,” he said.
The Y encourages the bonds of a father-child relationship in the great outdoors through our Y Guides program. In 2011, over 3,000 fathers, sons and daughters participated in the Y Guides program at the YMCA of Greater Richmond.
