Necole Brown credits the Y with helping her children reach their full academic potential.

For Necole finding quality child care for her daughters was a top priority, especially for her youngest daughter who was having problems at school. “Shakira is in the first grade. She had some developmental delays and needs a lot of help with her homework. The Y staff worked with her and she struggled a bit, but she’s making great progress. Her spelling has gone up two grade levels and her math has also increased by a grade.”

In addition to the academic improvements, Necole says the Y helps Shakira make friends. “She’s not really one to come out of her shell really quickly, but the Y has made her super confident and super comfortable in who she is.”

Necole said the family may move later this year. But no matter where they end up one thing is for sure – her children will be enrolled in a YMCA program. “I’ve told parents it’s a great program. You feel safe with leaving your kids in the care of well-trained individuals who honestly care about your children. I couldn’t ask for a better place to put my children in.”

The YMCA of Greater Richmond provides YMCA After-School Child Care to nearly 2,000 students each year in the Greater Richmond area.
